Former Samba Boy Baptista supports DSC’s campaign
dubai — He was part of the mesmerising Samba Boys in the previous decade and Julio Baptista too has joined the Dubai Sports Council’s (DSC) ‘Be Fit, Be Safe’ campaign by urging residents of Dubai and the UAE to be together and be strong.
Former international Baptista, capped 48 times by Brazil during which the attacking playmaker scored five goals, said that the world is going through a tough time and asked each and every one to follow the instructions given out by the government authorities.
“Hello everyone. I’m
Julio Baptista,” he said in the video, posted on DSC’s social media platforms.
“And I’d like to send a message to all the people and friends who I have in Dubai and the UAE. We know, the world is going through a difficult time but you need to be together and be strong. Please follow the procedures given by the authorities and stay at home. Be safe and be fit,” he added.
Baptista, who plied his trade for six-time Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A champions Sao Paulo, featured in the 2010 World Cup apart from the 2001 and 2005 Fifa Confederations Cup. He also played in the Copa America, scoring the opening goal in Brazil’s 3-0 victory over arch-rivals Argentina in the final in 2007.
The ‘Be Fit, Be Safe’ campaign was launched earlier last month to encourage members of the community to exercise at home following the precautionary closure of gyms to combat the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Through the campaign, which is being run under the hashtag #DSCchallenge, Dubai Sports Council is urging members of the community to be safe and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary, but, at the same time, continue exercising at home and share their home workout videos online, tagging @DubaiSC, to help motivate and inspire others.
