Use app and get meat delivered for free

- Ismail Sebugwaawo ismail@khaleejtimes.com

abu dhabi —Abbatoirs in Abu Dhabi will receive orders through ‘My Slaughtering’ app and deliver it to customers for free during Ramadan.

The app has options available for all types of livestock so they can be slaughtered and delivered to consumers easily.

The Abu Dhabi Municipality will also allow meat dealers to remain seated in their vehicles after giving instructions on how they want their meat to be sliced. Then, the ordered meat shall be handed to them. With this process, crowded waiting areas can be avoided, in line with social distancing rules amid the Covid-19 situation.

The civic body said all public slaughterhouses in the emirate have been readied to receive more than 70,000 animals during the holy month.

“Health measures have also been stepped up as the demand for livestock is bound to increase. The efficiency of slaughterhouses has been raised to provide the best service for consumers,” said the municipality.

Veterinarians will be present at the slaughterhouses round-theclock to monitor the sacrifices before and after the slaughter. Services will be provided to the public throughout the holy month, with one shift per day, employing 145 butchers across all abattoirs.

The municipality urged people to take their animals to abattoirs and warned that those who are caught slaughtering animals at their homes will face legal action. Animals — goats, sheep, cows and camels — will be received at Al Wathba slaughterhouse, Baniyas slaughterhouse and Al Shahama slaughterhouse.

Tailor-made iceboxes are in place for keeping meats to ensure proper transiting of meats and carcasses and avoid polluting or corrupting the meat due to heat exposure during the transit process. The fees for the slaughtering of animals in Abu Dhabi are: Dh15 for a goat or sheep, Dh40 for calf or young camel, and Dh60 for an older cow and camel.
