Imran undergoes Covid-19 test after Faisal Edhi tests positive
islamabad —Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday was tested for Covid-19 after Edhi Foundation Chairman Faisal Edhi, whom he met a few days ago, diagnosed positive for the disease.
A team of doctors from the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital collected samples from the premier, reports The Express Tribune.
“As a responsible prime minister and a responsible citizen I am happy to announce that the prime minister has agreed to get tested [for coronavirus] on my advice,” Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital CEO Dr Faisal Sultan, who is also the premier’s personal physician and focal person on Covid-19, told reporters.
Earlier, Faisal Edhi, son of the late humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, tested positive for novel coronavirus on Tuesday. Both his son Saad Edhi and spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation Mohammed Bilal confirmed the news.
“Initially, I had a fever and headaches. These symptoms lasted for three days,” Faisal said. “Currently, I do not have any symptoms but my test results have come back positive,” quoted Faisal as saying in a report.
The report said Faisal had been asked to self-isolate for a week.
£2.67m WHO support
The Edhi Foundation chairman had met Prime Minister Imran Khan on April 15 and handed over a Rs10 million cheque for the premier’s coronavirus relief fund. Faisal Edhi has not been admitted to any hospital and is selfisolating at Islamabad’s Edhi Home.
The WHO will be supporting the Government of Pakistan’s response to Covid-19 with £2.67 million worth of funding to scale-up the current response. “This funding package will be used in 27 districts across all provinces of Pakistan. The WHO has been working closely with the Government of Pakistan to prepare and respond to the growing threat of Covid-19,” Representative of WHO in Pakistan, Dr Palitha Mahipala said on Tuesday.
