Medical staff deserves respect and recognition, not attacks

-

The doctors, nurses, and medical personnel, who are looking after Covid-19 patients are rendering a great service to humanity, for which they deserve recognition and reward. They are working beyond the call of their duty. The pressures on the medical fraternity will continue and may actually increase after the lockdowns are eased in many countries. Until we confirm a set of medicines to treat Covid-19 find a vaccine, the disease could surface anywhere, anytime. Hence the medical profession will continue to be under intense pressure.

In this context some incidents in India of medical teams being attacked in towns are truly deplorable.

How much should schools charge when most of the learning is online?

I would like to raise a very important issue regarding the quality of e-learning. My son is in Grade 6 and hardly spends more than a couple of hours every day on learning, much like other kids of his grade. There is only a 10-minute introduction by the class teacher every morning. Most of the content is online and students are on their own. There is almost no interaction with any of the school teachers. It is all self-learning. And yet we are being asked to pay almost 90 per cent of school tuition fee.

A lot of parents have rightly raised their queries and concerns with the school and asked for a further discount. Parents are spending more time to assist their children instead of the teachers. We parents have requested for online classes but the school hasn’t been very appreciative of this suggestion.

Why should a school expect parents to pay almost full fees without providing quality education or support to parents and students?

Besides, our school is only offering a 10 per cent discount and that too if the parents agree to enrol their kids for the next term. Such a clause is uncalled. Schools should be a little more considerate. —Gautam Gehi, Dubai
