dubai — The picture of a little Sachin Tendulkar, barely three or four at that time, holding a bat and breaking into an infectious smile, has become something of an iconic image.
We all know how that went down as the maestro went on to rule the cricketing world. His impact was so huge, that, Tendulkar, who began his journey from the quaint Shivaji Park, known as the cradle of Mumbai cricket, and went on to conquer oppositions at Lord’s, the MCG, the Wanderers and many others, turned cricket into a religion.
With a population of 1.3 billion, and a large percentage of that hooked to cricket, there are many cricketing gems in every nook and corner of India. And thanks to this day and age of social media, we are able to witness some prodigies. And that latest to make the world sit up and take notice is a little girl from Rohtak, Haryana.
Seven-year-old Pari Sharma has left some of the world’s cricketing icons — past and present — impressed and in awe, after watching her bat.
In a video that has gone viral on social media platforms, Pari is seen batting and shows brilliant technique as she launches into front-foot drives, the cut and the pull.
There’s another video of her, where, instead of a bat, Pari uses a stump and a small ball, to help watch the ball properly and also aid her in facing a swinging ball.
Shai Hope, the prolific West Indies batsman, shared the video on his account and commented: “When I grow up I want to be like Pari Sharma,” following that with two clapping emojis.
England’s Ashes-winning captain Michael Vaughan and former Australian batsman Dean Jones were mightily impressed as well.
The qualities of Pari is she played most of her shots on the off-side and inside the ‘V but what stood out was her front-foot defence.
Perhaps, a star in the making.
