dubai—Keeping yourself safe from the clutches of the deadly coronavirus outbreak is the need of the hour. And to encourage you to boost your immunity, the Dubai Sports Council has launched the ‘Be Fit, Be Safe’ campaign last month, urging the residents of the UAE to share videos of their individual indoor training sessions as the gyms across the country have shut their doors to combat the spread of the deadly disease.

The ‘Be Fit, Be Safe’ campaign has received widespread support from the people in the UAE. With over 750 participants in the first ‘home marathon’ that was organised as part of the campaign, the

Dubai Sports Council has inspired the UAE to maintain a healthy lifestyle amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the biggest ingredients of this success story is the DSC’s effort to rope in some of the biggest names in world football to support this beautiful campaign with their video messages on social media to inspire people to be fit and safe. And the latest big name to back this campaign is none other than Carles Puyol, one of the greatest defenders the game has ever seen.

Puyol attained mythical status at Camp Nou for standing like a rock in the Barcelona backline, neutralising the threats of the rival teams.

And now fittingly, the former Barcelona captain has urged the people of the UAE to be at their defensive best as the world grapples with the menace of coronavirus.

“Hello, I am Carles Puyol. This is the message for all the people of Dubai. It’s important to stay at home and take care of your health and your family. Be fit and be safe,” said Puyol on Instagram.

Puyol was a talismanic figure for Barcelona where he won six La Liga and three Champions League titles before hanging up his boots. He joins Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti, Lazio great Juan Sebastian Veron, Portuguese icon Luis Figo, World Cup heroes Roberto Carlos of Brazil and Marco Materazzi of Italy, former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka of France, Manchester United great Ryan Giggs and Italian referee Pierluigi Collina on the list of football’s marquee names that have backed Dubai’s beautiful initiative.
