Inspections to target price rise, monopoly
sharjah — Availability of essential commodities during Ramadan will be ensured and any monopolistic approaches curbed, Sharjah’s Economic Development Department (Sedd) has said.
A recent inspection has assured enough market stocks of products during the holy month, added the authority.
Ali Fadull, head of the commercial protection department at the Sedd, said a comprehensive plan is in place to ensure that markets are protected from rising prices.
“The cooperation with the Jubail Market to provide food products at affordable prices will contribute to facilitating the mechanism to all consumers. The price control inspections will also target other food outlets to ensure the provision of goods for customers with ease,” he said.
Alia Al Habashi, director of the corporate contact centre at the Sharjah Asset Management Company, said the Jubail Market has stepped up its cooperation with the Sedd since the announcement of precautionary measures to prevent Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have worked together with the merchants to ensure the availability of fresh products — vegetables, fruits, meat and fish —in large quantities to meet the needs of shoppers at competitive prices,” she said.
