Pregnant visitor in Dubai hopes to fly home soon
dubai — An Indian expat and his nearly eight months’ pregnant wife, who is on a visit in Dubai, are hoping special repatriation flights to India can be introduced soon amid Covid-19 restrictions.
Mohammed Mosanna Khan, who had called his mother and wife to the UAE after his father’s death, is now feeling helpless and desperate. His 24-year-old wife on a visit visa — and due to deliver around June 15—is unable to travel back home.
Mohammed’s pregnant wife was looking to leave for New Delhi initially on March 28. Later, they were told that the confirmed ticket had been cancelled. They immediately booked other flights, but those were also cancelled. “Eventually, all flights got suspended due to the pandemic,” said the expat, who works at a Dubai-based project management company.
He added: “We are also getting restless because she has already crossed 32 weeks of pregnancy. All airlines ask for a travel fitness certificate after the 32nd week of a multiple pregnancy or the 36th
week of a single pregnancy. So, I want her to travel back home as soon as possible.”
His apprehensions seemed to be mounting, especially after Mohammed’s wife developed some minor health issues. She felt unwell one day, following which she had to be taken to a hospital’s emergency ward.
Reflecting on any foreseeable complications and bills he may not be able to afford, Mohammed said: “I am extremely worried about my wife and baby’s health. What if she develops some problems at the time of delivery? I had just got her a basic travel insurance that may hardly cover the medical costs.”
