‘Be positive, happiness is everywhere’

E-IFTAR WITH A FAMILY Even at a time of social distancing, families are eager to keep the spirit of iftar alive. KT joins them virtually as they end their fast in an intimate gathering.

For Nesrine Bengra, the head of marketing and public relations in Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club (GRPC), happiness and blessings are everywhere. And the Covid-19 pandemic won’t change the way she feels about the further blessings of the holy month of Ramadan.

“We miss the Taraweeh prayers after Iftar. However, we are maintaining the habit of praying as a family at home. We also read Quran every day.”

The Algerian expat, who has been a UAE resident for 28 years, misses the ability to go out and enjoy different restaurants, to indulge in food, going out for Suhoor, meeting up with friends, and family members and having a light chit- chat and laughter together.

She yearns for the mass Iftar buffets that GRPC used to hold. “I get goosebumps whenever I reflect back on those times. It gives positive energy when I travel back in time to those precious gatherings. I always share pictures of us together and try to relive those memories. It is our way to cherish precious moments in our hearts.”

Maintaining disciplinary routine

She stays connected with her siblings and friends via social media platforms. “We discuss, play games or challenge each other. Despite all the challenges, we need to appreciate what we have and cling to hope and have faith in God. Happiness can be found in everything,” said Nerine.

“Even though I’m working remotely, I try to keep a disciplinary routine: wake up early and go to bed early.

“I strongly believe in the power of dressing up and looking my best even if I am at home. I wake up early and get dressed as usual for a normal working day. It does change the mood and one should not underestimate that.”

Reaching out to the needy

“We have to remember the less fortunate people, mainly those affected by the preventive measures, and especially during Ramadan.”

Surprisingly, as she says, she became committed towards workouts during the Stayhome time more than ever.

Her positive spirit is infectious. The way she keeps herself busy and tries to pick up new skills or stays fit indoors is admirable: “Thanks to Youtube, I do yoga, meditation, fitness moves and try new recipes. Hope by Eid Al Fitr, this crisis will be behind us.”
