UAE Govt to bear cost of stem cell treatment of all critical cases: CP
The government will pay for the stem cell treatment of critical coronavirus cases in the UAE, according to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. A total of 73 Covid-19 patients in the UAE have successfully recovered after undergoing the breakthrough treatment procedure developed recently by the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre.
abu dhabi — All bills for the stem cell therapy of critical Covid patients shall be paid, as ordered by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The directive comes after the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre (ADSCC) announced the development of an innovative, promising treatment for Covid-19 infections using stem cells.
A total of 73 Covid-19 patients in the UAE have successfully recovered after undergoing the breakthrough treatment procedure.
The process involved extracting blood samples from the patient. These cells are then activated, and nebulised into a fine mist, so that the patient can inhale it again into his lungs.
How the therapy works
Based on the study, the therapy allows the regeneration of lung cells and modulates the body’s immune response to the Covid infection, thus preventing it from causing further damage to healthy cells.
The ADSCC pointed out that the new potential therapy is a supportive treatment that helps coronavirus patients fight the symptoms.
However, it does not kill the virus on its own, experts said.
It has been given to patients along with the conventional medical intervention and will continue to be applied as an addition to established treatment protocols, rather than as a replacement. —
