Provinces told to enforce all virus safety protocols

islamabad — The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday asked all provinces to ensure strict compliance of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Covid-19 to contain the risk of virus spread.

The NCOC in a meeting discussed the progress of the situation that emerged since the government eased the lockdown on May 9. Minister for Planning Developmen­t Reforms and Special Initiative­s Asad Umar presided over the meeting.

Speaking on the occsion, he warned the people against ignoring health guidelines for Covid-19, saying the lockdown has been eased but the threat of the deadly contagion still exists.

Umar said certain conditions had been put in place while easing the lockdown restrictio­ns which needed to be followed to ensure protection against coronaviru­s.

He said the SOPs had been given to industrial units to allow them to resume business activities.

Protocals for last 10 days of Ramadan

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has asked all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure implementa­tion of the agreed standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid holidays to avoid the spread of coronaviru­s.

In a letter, the ministry asked them that the already agreed 20-point SOPs for Ramadan and Taraweeh management would remain applicable during the last 10 days of Ramadan and Eid prayers.

It said the guidelines about social distancing and other measures would be followed during the last 10 days and Eid holidays.

The ministry also said the National Command and Operation Centre in its meeting on May 11 had decided that ‘no procession of any kind’ would be allowed during the last 10 days and Yaum-e-Ali.

Meanwhile, the countrywid­e tally of Covid-19 cases stood at 35,303 with 13,230 cases in Punjab, 13,341 in Sindh, 5,252 in Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a, 2,158 in Balochista­n, 475 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 759 in Islamabad and 88 in Azad Kashmir. —
