abu dhabi — In support of healthcare staff battling the Covid-19 pandemic, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), carsharing app (ekar) and the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) launched an initiative to offer free monthlong car rentals for healthcare professionals in Abu Dhabi.

The initiative signals recognition of the huge efforts of healthcare workers combating the virus, and aims to ease some of the burdens of healthcare professionals.

“This initiative represents the cooperation between government and private sectors in their fight against the outbreak of Covid-19 and provides support to the efforts of healthcare professionals to curb the disease,” the ITC said in a statement.

Vilhelm Hedberg, ekar’s founder and CEO, said: “Ekar has evolved into an essential form of mobility in everyday travel. During these uncertain times, we want to ensure we are supporting the nation’s essential workers and those who need to travel can do so safely in their own private vehicle to get to where they are needed the most.”

The service is accessible through downloading ekar app from Apple Store or Google Play, and register using Emirates ID and driving licence details. Afterwards, an e-mail message entitled ‘Ekar Health Care Heroes Offer’ should be sent along with a copy of the employee ID to help@ekar.me. The account will then be activated and the vehicle will be delivered to the requested location.
