abu dhabi — The much-needed happiness that the Eid Al Fitr celebrations have brought to UAE communities on Sunday became extra special for parents who welcomed their bundles of joy.

Among them was Dr Abdullah Al Marzouqi, an internal medicine physician, who is on the frontline of Covid-19 battle. For him, his baby Ali — born at 5am in Abu Dhabi — comes with “big hopes”.

Being a doctor on the Covid frontlines, Dr Al Marzouqi almost thought he would miss his child’s birth as he hasn’t seen his family in the past few months.

“I haven’t seen my family for the past three months, except for very few times. I am at high risk to

be exposed to the virus so I had to take the Covid-19 test each time before meeting them, and was quarantined as per the standard practices. I was lucky enough to witness the birth of my child,” he said.

Baby Ali was among the four babies born in the first few hours of Eid at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children in Abu Dhabi.

Dr Al Marzouqi will soon be back on duty to support the UAE’s efforts to combat the virus, but for now, he is relishing every moment with his son.

“Our baby comes with big hopes, and we believe the better time is coming, and the spread of the virus will decrease. It is my role and everyone’s role in this community to commit to the guidelines that help limit the spread of the virus.”

First baby

The UAE’s first Eid baby was born just a minute after midnight. Selim Mohamed Elbasyamy was welcomed by 12.01am at Burjeel

Hospital Abu Dhabi, and parents Mohamed Elbasyouny and Mai Youssef Awad were overjoyed.

The Al Jabri family – Amna Saaed and Ali, the proud Emirati parents — also welcomed their baby girl early morning at 04.23am, among the first to be born at NMC Hospital in Al Ain.

Elsewhere in the same hospital, another Emirati couple are brimming with joy with the birth of their baby boy.

Zayed Al Mansouri, an Emirati father, named his baby Khalifa, born by 2.33am at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children in Abu Dhabi. “My wife’s due date was last week but with Allah’s will here we are now celebrating the birth of our child,” he said.
