Saudi reports 3,159 new virus cases, 51 deaths

riyadh — The Saudi Arabia health ministry on Friday reported 3,159 new cases of Covid-19, raising the total number of cases to 226,486.

The death toll due to coronaviru­s infection in the country increased to 2,151 after 51 new fatalities were recorded.

The health ministry also announced the recovery of 1,930 individual­s who had previously tested positive for the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 163,026.

There were 61,309 active cases in the country, the ministry said, of which 2,220 were critical.

1,889 new cases registered in Oman

Oman’s Health Ministry on Friday announced 1,889 new coronaviru­s cases in the country. Among those, 621 cases were of expats and 1,268 of Omanis.

The total cases in the country now touched 53,614, including 34,225 recoveries and 244 deaths, according to the ministry.

The ministry urged people to adhere to social distancing instructio­ns issued by the Supreme Committee and stay at home and avoid going out unless necessary.

Iran discourage­s travel

Tehran on Friday urged Iranians to avoid travelling to two key tourist areas as it announced a drop in daily coronaviru­s deaths after a record toll a day earlier.

With the start of the summer holidays, the health ministry “strongly advised everyone to avoid travelling to the provinces of Khorasan Razavi and Mazandaran, two top tourist regions in the north of the country, health ministry spokeswoma­n Sima Sadat Lari said.

She told state television that 142 people had died of the Covid-19 illness, down from 221 on Thursday — a single-day record for the country.

A further 2,262 new infections were also recorded on Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 252,720, including 12,447 deaths. —
