Manoj Sinha is J&K lieutenant governor

-

srinagar — The federal government named a former telecom minister on Thursday to lead Kashmir. Manoj

Sinha, a leader in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, will replace career bureaucrat G.C. Murmu as lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, a government statement said.

The appointment came a day after authorities ensured that the first anniversary of the revocation of Kashmir’s constitutional autonomy passed off without any street protests amid heavy deployment of police and restrictions on public movement.

Sinha wore many hats — a former minister of state for railways, an IIT graduate, a man who transformed Ghazipur with his developmental initiatives.

Many believe that very few lawmakers in the Hindi heartland took Modi’s ‘Vikas’ call as seriously as Sinha. —
