The meteoric rise of the airline has set a benchmark across the aviation industry today.

In 35 years since 1985, the Dubaibased airline has grown to become one of the largest in the world. Operating the world’s largest fleets of Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, its main activity is the provision of commercial air transporta­tion services with a turnover of $26.7 billion in 2018-2019.

Flying over 160 destinatio­ns, Emirates has helped tap the power of Dubai’s strategic geographic location. It has also been instrument­al in the city’s rapid rise as a tourism hub. Dubai was ranked the world’s fourth most visited city for the fourth year in a row by the MasterCard Global Destinatio­n Cities Index 2018. Dubai also topped the list of global cities with the highest internatio­nal overnight visitor spend for the third year in a row.

Conceived in 1985, in the years following its founding, the airline has expanded both its fleet and its destinatio­ns. In October 2008, Emirates moved all operations at Dubai Internatio­nal Airport to Terminal 3. Over the past 35 years, Emirates has today grown to be the largest internatio­nal airline in the world. Not only is it ahead on air but also on the customers’ fingertips. Its mobile app has more than 15 million downloads to make choices easy and in sync with the travelers to experience a seamless service.

In 2019-20, the Group continued to build its capability with investment­s totalling Dh11.7 billion for new facilities, aircraft and technology. It also built on its innovation eco-system, with active participat­ion in programmes like Intelak, Dubai Future Accelerato­rs, and the Aviation X Lab that support entreprene­urs, start-ups and SMEs in developing innovative solutions for the aviation and travel industry.

The diverse and talented Emirates Group workforce has been a key ingredient to the airline’s success and it continues to invest in our people through various training and profession­al developmen­t programmes.

Emirates Skywards programme

Emirates Skywards, the award-winning loyalty programme of Emirates and flydubai, has marked 20 years of excellence, innovation and unmatched rewards. The programme has continuall­y invested to diversify its brand partnershi­ps, and utilise innovative digital technology, so that it can offer its members across the globe with more ways to earn and enjoy rewards, convenient­ly and via new touchpoint­s.

The loyalty programme has 27 million members worldwide. Emirates Skywards members come from more than 180 countries, including: 3.5 million members in the United Kingdom, 2.7 million in the United States, 2 million in Australia, 1.9 million in India, and 1.9 million in the UAE.

Safe travel in the skies

The airline supports its customers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Travel through industry-leading health and safety measures across every point of contact and have launched initiative­s to provide safety, resilience and restore confidence in air travel.

Emirates Group Chairman Al Maktoum said: “Under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Emirates is proud to lead the way in boosting confidence for internatio­nal travel. We know people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually re-open, but they are seeking flexibilit­y and assurances should something unforeseen happen during their travel.”

This cover for Covid-19 related medical expenses and quarantine costs is offered by Emirates free of cost to its customers regardless of class of travel or destinatio­n. This cover is immediatel­y effective for customers flying on Emirates until October 31, 2020 (first flight to be completed on or before October 31, 2020). It is valid for 31 days from the moment they fly the first sector of their journey.
