dubai — Preparing for the next 50 years is not all about building the most advanced infrastructure or creating greener, smarter cities. It’s also about shaping a generation that is honest, respectful, tolerant and kind, a top officer has said.

At a recent panel session hosted by the Ministry of Community Development (MoCD), in collaboration with the Juvenile Awareness and Welfare Association (JAWA), experts and officers discussed how the UAE could prepare its children for the future. The virtual session was held in line with the ‘Designing the Next 50’ project launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“What do we want our children to be in the future? What does the UAE want from our children to prepare for the next 50 years?” asked Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai.

Thought leaders should guide the new generation towards positive and constructive ideas through lectures and workshops.”

The top officer said that in raising the next generation, parents should instil in them core values like honesty and morality. They should be provided with good education and grow up in a loving, family-oriented environment that respects and cares for the elderly.

The youth must also learn the principles of tolerance to keep them away from extremist ideas and hatred, Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan said.

Both at home and in school, children should be taught the values of loyalty, love, service and national pride, he added.
