Kids of determination receive free ice cream from Baskin-Robbins
dubai — When it comes to making a difference in someone’s life, the smallest things have the power to change everything.
For the students at the Rashid Center for People of Determination, this change started with a snowman, and a smile. To celebrate World Kindness Day, which falls on November 13 every year, Baskin-Robbins took everybody’s favourite snowman to spread some cool cheer and talk about the importance of kindness in our lives. Baskin-Robbins, which has spent almost 50 years spreading happiness with its delicious ice-cream, treated the students to a variety of their favourite ice-cream flavours.
Sandra Ugalde, head teacher at the school, thanked Baskin-Robbins for the initiative, and shared her thoughts on the importance of celebrating World Kindness Day.
“World Kindness Day for me is a time when we stop and think about other people and how we can find one simple solution to make a difference in their lives,” she said. “This can be by being kind, considerate, and helpful. I know that it is very difficult in this situation with Covid-19, but just doing something for someone else and thinking of them can make a huge impact on their life.”
She explained that showing kindness and helping others does not have to be a grand gesture or cost anything – it could be as simple as a kind word or a simple gesture. “We should also not limit these positive changes and actions to just one day; people should make it a point to be kind every
single day, because it makes such a big difference in peoples’ lives.”
“If everybody made it a point to be kind to someone, like a colleague, a fellow student, or a person in the street, then the difference could be huge,” she added.
Abdulaziz Ahmed, an Emirati entrepreneur, who joined in the celebration at the school, said that being kind to someone is a way of bringing true happiness to a person’s heart. “You feel happy when you see other people smile — it is a priceless feeling.”
People, he noted, are very busy with their responsibilities and their lives nowadays, but a simple smile and a small act of kindness makes a big difference in improving someone’s day. “All of us have had a hard time with Covid-19, and we are all looking forward to something that brings happiness. Small acts of kindness can bring joy to our lives.”
