Heads up, Grade 10 and 12 students of Indian schools: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday issued a revised date sheet, rescheduling all the exams set between May 13 and 16, which cover the likely dates of this year’s Eid Al Fitr.

The Grade 10 science paper for May 15 will now be held on May 21, and the math paper earlier scheduled on May 21 is moved to June 2. Arabic and Sanskrit to be held on June 2 will now be on June 3.

The Grade 12 physics paper on May 13 got postponed to June 8. National Cadet Corps, marketing and geospatial technology exams to be held on June 8 are moved to June 12. Also, dates of math and applied math have been swapped with Hindi. Now, math and applied math will be on May 31 and Hindi on June 1. Geography will be held on June 3.

According to Islamic Finder’s calculation, the Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to begin on Tuesday, April 13, and Eid on Thursday, May 13. Considering the new exam dates, students will have enough time to celebrate with their family until the weekend of Saturday, May 15.

Though the CBSE hasn’t issued an official clarification to explain the reason behind the revision, the new schedule bodes well for students, especially Muslims, who can now mark the festival without worrying about exams. “So nice of the board to consider reallocating exams falling on the occasion of Eid. This will uplift the spirits of not just Muslim friends but everyone. Now, we all can plan out some time to mark the festival without fretting over the exams,” said Asma Abdul Ahad, Grade 12 student, Abu Dhabi Indian School, Al Wathba.

While Grade 10 student Mohammed Nihal is happy about the brief break during the festival, he found the new schedule quite challenging.

“After English on May 6, the next major exam of science is now after 15 days, which is too big a gap. And math is rescheduled to June 2 and Arabic is now on June 3. We have less than a day to prepare for the Arabic exam. It is a tight schedule now. The CBSE has always given a gap of one or two days,” said Nihal, a student of Sunrise English Private School.

This will uplift the spirits of everyone. Now, we all can plan out some time to mark the festival without fretting over the exams.”
