DUBAI // A woman who was injured in Wednesday’s gas canister explosion at the Al Khail Gate community died in hospital yesterday.

She was injured when a gas canister exploded in a flat on the fifth floor of building 39. Another woman and a baby were also hurt.

The baby suffered minor injures while both women were in critical condition when they were taken to Rashid Hospital, Dubai Police said.

Dubai Properties, developer of Al Khail Gate, said tenants who lived on the floor were the blast took place were in temporary accommodation.

“We are committed to working with authorities to provide advanced safety and security procedures for the protection of residents at all times,” said the firm. “We express our deepest sorrow to the family, friends and neighbours of the residents concerned.”

Dubai Properties said the outcome of the police investigation will be known “in due course”. Yesterday, debris from the blast could still be seen around the damaged building, while workers were on the rooftop of a nearby building to assess the damage.

One resident said that most of the debris was cleared by Wednesday evening, adding: “It was a very bad accident, and we hope something like this never happens again.”
