ABU DHABI // For those who seek a path to education, Allah will enhance their path to paradise, Muslims will be told ahead of the new school year.

As students prepare to head to school on Sunday, today’s sermon tells worshippers that “education is the most honourable objective that Allah has ordered us to strive for”. Prophet Mohammed started his day asking Allah to grant him beneficial knowledge, and he ordered his companions to ask for it, too.

A verse from the Quran elevates the status of those who have knowledge. It says: “Are those who know equal to those who do not know? Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.” The second caliph and the Prophet’s companion, Omar bin Al Khattab, also called for learning and teaching others : “And be humble to those whom you learnt knowledge from.”

Therefore, students are advised to respect their teachers . This is also a sign of loyalty to one’s country, the sermon will say. Students are reminded that teachers have a similar status to prophets, as Prophet Mohammed said: “I have been sent as a teacher.”

“Education requires the support of parents until its mission has been fulfilled,” the sermon says.

“Let’s reflect upon the efforts the UAE has made in the field. It has established the highest scientific standards and become the champion of sustainable clean energy.”

The efforts of schools should also be appreciated and one should cooperate with traffic police who are enhancing the trip to and from schools.
