ROUSSEFF PLEA: ‘DO NOT ACCEPT COUP’

-

BRASILIA // Suspended Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff told senators in emotional testimony at her trial yesterday that voting for her impeachment would amount to a coup d’etat. Declaring her innocence and recalling her torture by the country’s military dictatorship in the 1970s, Ms Rousseff warned that Brazil was on the verge of losing its democracy. “Vote against impeachment, vote for democracy. Do not accept a coup,” said the 68-year-old leftist leader as she defended herself before her expected removal from office by senators. – AFP
