The world’s top travel destinations such as Rome and Paris have earned their reputations among travellers for their world-class attractions and famous landmarks. Yet, as any intrepid traveller will tell you, there is something special about visiting places that people usually do not venture. We all secretly love that feeling we get when it seems as if we are the only tourist around, even when that’s not the case.

Consider Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia that is considered one of the world’s most dangerous countries, a place plagued by political infighting, violence and terrorism. But that isn’t stopping tourists from flying there, where its bullet-pocked buildings combined with natural beauty leave indelible memories.
