‘CORRIDOR’ FOR SOUTH SUDAN AID
KHARTOUM // Sudan said yesterday it would open a “humanitarian corridor” for delivering food aid to those suffering famine in South Sudan, which split from the north in 2011. The world’s youngest nation has declared famine in parts of Unity state, saying 100,000 people face starvation and another million are on the brink of famine. The corridor will be used to deliver aid from El Obeid in Sudan to Bentiu, a town in famine-struck Unity state. Sudan ordered the delivery of 10,000 tonnes of the staple sorghum through the corridor. – AFP
