Soldier loved his family and poetry
Nayee Al Qaiyidi, who died in a road accident on Saturday, was a great father and caring sibling. He was also known for his passion for poems and Nissan cars, writes Thaer Zriqat
SHARJAH // An Emirati soldier who died in a car accident was described as a loving father and accomplished poet.
Nayee Al Qaiyidi, 39, died on Saturday night on Al Dhaid Road in Sharjah when his car overturned after he lost control.
“He was famous for poetry, he wrote about Nissan cars. He was infatuated with them and his poetry received a lot of great feedback from other local poets, friends and town members,” said Omar Al Qaiyidi, Nayee’s brother.
“He loved poetry, he took every chance he could get to recite poetry among his peers and friends. He was well known on social media platforms and on YouTube.” Nayee leaves behind five daughters and a two- year- old son, Obaid. He was an active member of his community and regularly recited poetry at weddings and local events.
Police said his car overturned between bridges 11 and 12 on the E88 towards Al Dhaid. “He was returning home to take one of his daughters to Al Dhaid when this tragedy happened. We were shocked to hear that our brother had died in an accident,” said Omar, 22, one of Nayee’s six brothers. He also had three sisters. “The condolences we received on social media were overwhelming, the number of well-wishers who paid their respects touched our hearts profoundly,” said Omar.
“He was like a father figure to me. “He always offered sound advice and a helping hand whenever I needed assistance or guidance.”
Khalifa, 37, another of Nayee’s brothers, said Al Qaiyidi was “a loving and caring brother, and a great father”.
“He had been in love with poetry for as long as I can remember. Always listening to and reading local poetry, it was his favourite hobby,” Khalifa said.
“Nayee’s death was a shock to us. We are still comprehending what has happened and the outpouring from the local community has been heartwarming for our family.”
Al Qaiyidi’s body was taken to Sharjah Police’s forensic laboratory before it was handed over to family members for burial. On Sunday morning, family, friends and the local community performed the funeral prayers at Al Owais mosque before Nayee was laid to rest in his hometown of Khidira, in Al Dhaid.
