Dubai beach dress code is a great idea

-

The introduction of a dress code at two new family beaches in Dubai is a great idea ( Swimwear alert at new Dubai beaches, April 19). This is a similar concept in reverse to nudist beaches in Europe, which are separated from public beaches so those who prefer to be modest (by European standards) don’t have to put up with viewing peculiar behaviour and sunburnt flesh all over the place.

The perception of modesty is obviously different in the UAE and there are plenty of beaches to accommodate everyone.

After seeing some of the horrific sights on a nudist beach in the UK, I consider it to be a fabulous idea.

Conservative people would be able to enjoy the seaside in their own country without feeling uncomfortable. Darren Arturi, Dubai

This pretty much bans all the lowest-income workers from the nice beaches as the men are here by themselves. Not all bother women. Some of the worst stares and comments I get are from married men with their families. I hate the beaches for this reason. The poorly educated men are the problem. Daniella How, Dubai

Most non-Muslim tourists will go to hotels with private beaches anyway, but Dubai as a city could be mindful of the number of jobs and the significant income generated.

In the same way as most tourist want to be able to eat while on holiday, whether Ramadan or not, visitors to the country will expect to be able to swim as they choose. Jeff Evans, Abu Dhabi
