‘CONCENTRATION CAMPS’ IN EUROPE
ROME // Pope Francis yesterday described some of Europe’s refugee centres as concentration camps as he paid tribute to a Christian woman slain for her faith in front of her Muslim husband. The 80-year-old pontiff commemorated martyrs in Rome’s Basilica of St Bartholomew. He said he met the victim and her husband on a visit to a refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece. “He looked at me and said ‘they saw her crucifix and asked her to throw it away. When she refused, they cut her throat in front of me. We loved each other so much’.”
