FOR THE RUSSIANS, STALIN IS GREATEST
MOSCOW // Russians have picked Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin as the greatest figure in history, a poll said yesterday. President Vladimir Putin shares second spot with the beloved poet Alexander Pushkin. In the poll conducted in April by the Levada Centre, Russians were asked to pick the 10 greatest people of all time. Stalin came out on top with 38 per cent, while Putin shared second place on 34 per cent with Pushkin. Vladimir Lenin, Tsar Peter the Great and Yuri Gagarin came next in the list of 20 people.
