Budding singing star found in workers’ accommodation
Ammar Saeed decided to enter a contest two years ago, little knowing it would lead to a professionally produced music video.
The Pakistani security worker, 28, now has a chance at fame after catching the attention of online entertainment channel, Selfie TV.
“I was impressed by his talent and since then I have been following his work,” said Sahar Mahmoud, founder of Selfie TV founder.
Mr Mahmoud’s interest was such that he offered to pro- duce Saeed’s debut music video, Sitam.
Shot at locations across Dubai, the video for the Hindi love song follows the tribulations of a young couple. It shows Saeed singing at coastal locations overlooking the Dubai skyline.
“If you listen to the song, you know it’s a sad love song and it was inspired by poetry I had written when I first experienced heartbreak at 17 years old,” Saeed said.
“I used the poem to create the lyrics and melody, and hopefully this song will soothe souls that have felt the pain of love.”
Saeed first entered a camp contest four years ago.
“I always enjoyed singing but it was only in 2013 when I participated at Camp Ka Champ, a talent show for labour camps, that I knew I wanted to do this more seriously,” he said.
“The thrill of being on stage and having people appreciate your talent is indescribable.”
Saeed hopes the video results in more gigs. He has already been signed up for local performances, from parties to private functions.
“I was very determined to make something out of myself and it took almost a year and half for me to record my song professionally, then get to this stage of releasing it to the world,” he said.
“Selfie TV played a major role in offering the support and means to make this finally happen. It hasn’t been easy but it has been worth all the effort.
“With the release of this song, I hope more people will offer me the opportunity to showcase my talent. I will continue to follow my passion for music and I am currently working on three to four songs, and hopefully we will release them soon.
