HOW PLAY-OFF WINNERS FARED
Since 1992-93, 25 sides have been promoted from the Championship, with 10 staying up. As Huddersfield Town bid to be the 11th, here are some noteworthy stories:
Best performance Blackburn Rovers
Fuelled by the money of club owner Jack Walker and helped by Alan Shearer’s goals, manager Kenny Dalglish guided his side to fourth place in their first season in top flight in 1992-93 after beating Leicester City at Wembley in the play-off final.
Most consistent West Ham United
The East London side have twice come up through the play-offs and both times they comfortably stayed up the following season. In 2005-06 season they finished ninth during a year in which they also reached the FA Cup final, and in 2012-13 under Sam Allardyce they finished in tenth.
Worst performance Derby County
The Midlands club broke numerous records during a 200708 campaign which still holds the milestone for the least amount of points achieved as they notched up only 11. Sorry Derby picked up only one win all season and conceded 89 goals in 38 games.
Most play-off promotions Crystal Palace
Three times the South London side have gone up via the playoff route. The first two seasons in 1997/98 and 2004/05 did not go so well as they were relegated, but in 2013/14 they survived a bad start to the season, having only four points by November, to finish in eleventh.
