Catch two films as part of the Nowplaying series presented by Cinema Akil and Alserkal Avenue. A Present from the Past is an Egyptian documentary by Kawthar Younis, who shares the story of taking her father to Rome for his 75th birthday to find the Italian woman he fell in love with and left 33 years earlier with promises to return to her, but he never did. Younis created the film using hidden cameras and home videos to capture the true essence of her relationship with her father. Then catch Saudi Shorts, three short films by the Saudi Telfaz11 collective that tell stories of extremists who take over a theatre, a special bond between a maid and a child, and survivors of a plane crash.
