Holiday weekend brings a break from the heat
Cooler temperatures came as a relief to many this weekend, with the mercury dipping as low as 31°C in Ras Al Khaimah and 35°C in Dubai.
But summer is not quite over yet.
The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology has forecast temperatures ranging from the high-30s to mid-40s.
Accuweather, the global forecaster that predicts weeks in advance, said the mercury would hover around 40°C and the high-30s throughout much of this month.
Today should be hazy at times, with some clouds appearing over eastern areas, and may bring rainfall by afternoon.
There will be “light-to-moderate winds in general, freshening at times during afternoon over the exposed areas”, the weather bureau said. In the coming 48 hours it predicted, “clouds will form over some eastern areas of the country, becoming convective at times by afternoon, and may have some rainfall”.
“Light-to-moderate winds in general, freshening at times during the afternoon, causing blowing dust over some exposed areas,” the bureau said. “The relative humidity will increase during night and early morning over some coastal areas, with a chance of fog or mist early on Tuesday morning.
“Conditions will be moderate in the Arabian Gulf, becoming rough during Monday late night and Tuesday morning, and moderate to rough at times in Oman Sea, especially to north.”
The humidity, which is said to be at its worst in September, could be between 20 per cent and 85 per cent at times, the bureau said.
Tomorrow will bring an increased risk of showers in the south of the country as cloud builds through coastal areas. But it will remain warm, with temperatures likely to increase towards 40°C by midweek.
