Ajman fire crews control shopping centre blaze
Emergency response crews contained a fire that broke out at a shopping centre in Ajman yesterday morning.
Lt Col Raed Obiad Al Zaabi, the deputy director of the Civil Defence Centres department, said they were alerted about the fire by the operations room, which received a call at 6.41am.
Within a few minutes, Ajman firefighters from the Civil Defence headquarters, Al Jarf centre, and the industrial area centre as well as teams from Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain were dispatched to the scene in the Al Hooth Centre in Al Rawdah 2.
Lt Col Al Zaabi said that Ajman police helped to secure the area and directed traffic as the teams continued to dampen down the fire-damaged buildings.
He said he personally supervised the control of the fire, which he described as huge, because the centre has several warehouses, all of which were on fire.
“I appeal to the public to refrain from gathering at scenes of fire for their own safety and also to help facilitate the work of firefighters, instead of getting in their way,” he said.
Drivers faced delays as traffic congestion built around the area while fire crews continued cooling and recovery operations. No casualties were reported and the scene will be handed to fire experts to determine the cause of the fire.
A Civil Defence spokesman said the fire was huge and affected several warehouses
