Degree achieved by Lewandowski

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has obtained a college degree, one day after scoring his 16th goal in World Cup qualifying. The Bayern Munich forward faced a panel from the Academy of Sport Education in Warsaw and passed his exam for a bachelor’s degree. One of the professors, Marek Rybinski, said Lewandowski’s answers were “excellent.” Lewandowski’s thesis focused on coaching and management and described his own career from childhood football to playing for titles in large stadiums. It spoke of ambition, rivalry and of the support Lewandowski got from his parents and wife. It is to be published at a later date. On Sunday, Lewandowski scored a goal in Poland’s 4-2 win over Montenegro that secured a place in next summer’s finals in Russia, Poland’s first World Cup appearance since 2006. ▷▷▷ Kyrgios says he has found his purpose Australian Nick Kyrgios says he has found his life’s purpose in helping underprivileged children and that he is planning to set up a facility for them in Melbourne. The 22-yearold world No 21 said interacting with a young cancer patient had opened his eyes. “I think I’ve found my purpose,” Kyrgios wrote in an essay published in the Players Voice. “I get more happiness from helping kids out and watching them succeed than I do from my own wins on the tennis tour. It’s always been that way.

If my vision is realised, it’s my hope that I’ll be remembered for this more than anything I have done or will do on the tennis court.” ▷▷▷

Baines impressed by sports science benefits Everton defender Leighton Baines said he is relying on advances in sports science and medical technology, including a change in diet, to help prolong his career. The 32-year-old Englishman, who has made nearly 400 Premier League appearances, says sports science has come a long way since he started playing and can offer the sort of marginal gains that keep older players performing at the highest level. “I feel like when I first started it was just creeping in and taking off a little bit, and it just keeps growing and growing,” Baines told Everton’s website. “There’s so much to it now and everyone’s trying to find that extra one or two per cent wherever they can get it, and that can be a big thing in the game now. I’ve just got to try to be as close to perfect as possible in terms of how you live your life, your preparation and your recovery.”
