TIME TO REWIND AT REMIX 92

-

Remix 92 will see a bevy of artists, big in the 1990s, hitting the Irish Village stage to perform their signature songs. With nine artists on the bumper bill, we take a look at five of the key acts

Boyzlife

This Irish ensemble consists of the lead singer of Westlife and one of the backing vocalists from Boyzone. Ever since Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy began this project last year, the duo have been gaining traction, with a well-received tour of the UK and Europe. Boyzlife’s UAE debut comes after the pair’s planned performances at the Abu Dhabi and Dubai Hilton hotels in November last year were cancelled.

Snap!

Vocalist Penny Ford’s clarion call “I’ve got the power!” in Snap!’s 1990 hit single The Power, cemented her as one of the queens of 1990s pop. While fans may (or, indeed, may not) miss the powerful presence of rapper Turbo B – who now tours solo at 90s hiphop festivals alongside the likes of MC Hammer – Ford is still a formidable stage performer who should keep the crowd moving.

C+C Music Factory

The American dance group nearly went the way of Milli Vanilli after former lead singer Martha Walsh sued the band for not crediting her for the hook on the 1990 chart-topper Gonna Make You Sweat, and instead hired a slimmer singer to mime it on the video. Still, they managed to survive, and, led by rapper Freedom Williams, went on to score another hit with 1991’s Things That Make You Go Hmmmm.

N-Trance

Like many 1990s dance groups, N-Trance began as studio project, this time for UK producers Kevin O’Toole and Dale Longworth. After reaching the peak of their success with 1994’s Set You Free and their covers of 1970s staples Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? and Stayin’ Alive, the producers found other work, while vocalist Lynsey Barrow and rapper MC B continue to work those hits on stage.

Rozalla

The Zambian pop star returns to Dubai for another airing of her hits, which include the effervescent, upbeat Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) and Faith (In the Power of Love), both from 1991. The 53-year-old made a surprise return to the UK charts in 2003 with the club hit Live Another Life. And then, in 2015, she cracked the United States top 10 dance charts, somewhat unexpectedly, with If You Say It Again.
