Geopolitical and economic thought leaders will gather at the Arab Strategy Forum in Dubai next week to forecast global and regional developments and issues in 2018.

Now in its 10th year, the forum takes place on December 12 entitled The State of the World in 2018, and will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

“The Forum reflects the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid with regard to the need to anticipate geopolitical and economic developments regionally and globally so that we can be prepared to deal with various scenarios and advance the interests of the region,” said Suha Al Aleeli, director of the ASF.

“The world is going through rapid and constant changes which require a quick response and immediate action plans,” she said.

The event will comprise six sessions featuring speakers including Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, who will offer an economic perspective on the year to come, and address the question of whether or not the world will witness another economic crisis.

Other sessions will cover the political and economic state of the Arab world.

Former French president Francois Holland and former US defence secretary Robert Gates will discuss political developments, and a special session will focus on the geopolitical situation in the Arabian Gulf. The forum will also review a report on events that will affect the world next year.
