Key Houthi command centre destroyed in UAE forces-led operation in Yemen
UAE troops in the Arab coalition in Yemen have destroyed one of the Houthi rebels’ command centres, in the Hais district of Taez.
The centre was used by the Iran-backed group to store weapons and ammunition for its fighters stationed in different parts of the district, Wam reported on Wednesday.
“Its destruction will severely impact communication among the fighters,” the report said.
It said the operation was executed with the support of the coalition forces fighting for the internationally recognised government of president Abdrabu Mansur Hadi.
The Air Force also destroyed a Houthi transport that was carrying weapons.
Meanwhile, two leading Houthi officers were killed by the Yemeni army in the Saada province, north of the capital Sanaa on Wednesday.
Maj Gen Saleh Al Rubaee and Col Salaheddine Saylan were killed with five other members of the Houthi militia in fierce clashes on Al Buka battlefront, the military-run 26 September news site reported.
In Al Jawf province, about 140 kilometres south of Sanaa, Yemen’s army backed by the coalition captured military sites that had been occupied by the rebels.
“Many Houthis were killed and at least 15 were arrested,” Ramzi Mokhtar, who is with the troops in Al Jawf, told The National.
The war in Yemen has killed at least 10,000 people.
