Boro fan arrested for ‘disgusting act’
A Middlesbrough fan who allegedly urinated in the opposition goalkeeper’s water bottle during an English Championship game has been arrested and faces a ban from watching his team, British police said. Video shared on social media shows a man reseal a water bottle and throw it on to the pitch behind the Queens Park Rangers goal at their Loftus Road ground in London during Boro’s 3-0 win on Saturday. Fans talking about the incident on a forum indicated the bottle may have been taken earlier by a pitch invader. It is unclear whether QPR’s goalkeeper, Alex Smithies, drank from the bottle. The dedicated football officer for Cleveland Police, whose territory includes Middlesbrough, said on Twitter: “I’ve been asked by a few followers and can confirm the so called @ Boro fan who urinated in the @QPRFC goalie bottle was arrested by colleagues from @MPSFootballUnit Disgusting act and I will do all I can to remove him from attending Boro games again.”
Schalke threaten to drop Bayern-bound Goretzka
Schalke’s chairman has threatened to banish their Bayern Munich-bound midfielder Leon Goretzka to the stands for the rest of the season if he fails to perform for the club. Both clubs said on Friday that Goretzka, 22, will join Bayern next season on a free transfer after five years with Schalke. Club chairman Clemens Toennies has said he will insist Goretzka be banished to the stands if he under performs in the time left. “I hope he will play a second half to the season of his life,” Toennies told Sky Sports News. “However, if it is better for the team, then it could also be the case that Leon Goretzka sits until the end of the season in the stands.”
Parisian card ends in mass brawl outside ring
An international boxing card in the suburbs of Paris finished with a 90-minute mass brawl in the crowd which forced the evacuation of the venue, police said. The evening had included Frenchman Mohamed Mimoune winning the IBO super lightweight crown by beating Argentine Emiliano Dominguez Rodriguez. Then the violence moved out of the ring after a bout between local boxers. “At the end of the evening a brawl broke out around 23:55 in the Marcel Cerdan hall,” the local police headquarters said. “Around 200 people fought, some with chairs. The security guards were overwhelmed and the fight continued outside until 1:25 and necessitated the intervention of the police.” It took several dozen police to restore order. Only one combatant was arrested and there were no injuries, police said.
