Dubai Marathon 2018: ready for road closures

- ASHLEIGH STEWART

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon takes place on Friday, with competitors arriving from around the world.

The Middle East’s largest mass participation event is back for its 19th edition, and that means an estimated 30,000 runners hitting Dubai’s roads.

Closures will be centred in the Jumeirah and Al Sufouh areas and will be in place from midnight on Thursday.

Umm Suqeim Street will be closed in both directions from Al Wasl Road (Dubai Police Academy) to the Madinat Jumeirah traffic signals on Jumeirah Beach Road.

This closure will be in place from midnight tomorrow until Friday about 1pm.

Jumeirah Beach Road and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street will be closed from Al Mehemal Street on Jumeirah Beach Road to the Al Naseem Street intersection next to the Westin Hotel.

These roads will begin to close from 1.30am on Friday, and will be closed to all traffic from 5.30am until 1pm.

Al Wasl Road will be closed between Al Thanya Road and Umm Suqeim Street, but remain open in the opposite direction, away from Umm Suqeim Street.

This closure will be in place from about 3am, until the bulk of the people have left the area, which should be by about 2pm.

The Palm Jumeirah will be accessible only via Dubai Pearl Circle from Sheikh Zayed Road. This restriction will be in place until about 1pm.
