F1 hires Hollywood composer to write new theme Formula One has hired the composer of several “Fast and Furious” movies to write a new theme tune for the motor racing organisati­on. Brian Tyler, an Emmy-nominated American has made music for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark

World as well as the Fast and Furious franchise, and also wrote theme music for ESPN’s National Football League (NFL) shows. “What an honor to be chosen to compose the Formula 1 theme! This is a life long dream come true as I am a massive #formula1 fan. Thank you #F1!,” Tyler, who was a guest at last year’s US Grand Prix, said on his Twitter feed. US-based Liberty Media took over the global sport in January last year and has set about engaging a younger audience as well as developing a digital strategy. Formula One launched a television streaming product, F1 TV, last Tuesday. “Within the context of looking at ways to bring fans closer to Formula One, we are exploring all avenues to refresh the look and feel of the show,” said a Formula One spokesman.

Weirather recovers from illness to triumph

Tina Weirather, like many athletes competing at last month’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchan­g had struggled to get motivated again once the action in South Korea had been completed. The Liechtenst­ein skier admitted as much after claiming victory in yesterday’s Super-G race in Switzerlan­d as she finished ahead of Austrian rival Anna Veith. Weirather, who won bronze in South Korea in the Super-G, said: “After the Olympics I struggled a little bit because it was such a highlight and I had not thought about what comes afterwards. I felt a bit sick and spent two days in bed but I’m really happy I was able to focus on my next goal.” Weirather leads the Super-G standings with 421 points, with Switzerlan­d’s Lara Gut, seventh in Saturday’s race, in second place on 375.

Criticism from Guardiola helps Sane find his best Leroy Sane has revealed that he believes criticism from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has helped make him a better player. The German has already scored 12 goals with 15 assists in all competitio­ns after nine goals and eight assists last term, and he believes tough love from Guardiola has made him raise his game. “As soon as I arrived here he was criticisin­g me straight away,” he recalled. “He showed me where I can improve and every time I made a mistake he would say, ‘You have to do it like this!’ And when I tried to do it, I could see it helped me.”
