Pupils celebrate after top CBSE exam results

Records fell as Indian pupils across the UAE received their Central Board of Secondary Education exam results yesterday.

Up to 6,700 Grade 12 pupils at more than 18 schools were divided into three streams – science, humanitarian and commerce – for the examinations, which are an entrance requirement for many universities.

Mr Ashok Kumar, chief executive of Indian High School, said two of his pupils, Raina Latih Shah and Chaaru Latha, scored at the top of their streams.

Raina, 17, scored 97.4 per cent in commerce and mathematics.

“I feel great,” said Raina. “Since 12 years ago I have been studying mathematics by myself.

“I am really passionate about this subject. My parents and teachers supported me.

“Constant hard work and study in a smart way throughout the year is the key to such results.

“I never count the hours I study. When I have exams, I prepare a timetable.”

Raina wants to work in management and business administration.

Michael Guzder, vice president at Gems Education, said he was very pleased with the pupils’ results.

The principal at Gems Our Own English High School in Sharjah said 77 pupils out of 240 scored over 90 per cent

Evelyn Kishore, 18, at Gems’ Our Own English High School in Sharjah, set a record for her school after scoring 98.4 per cent in the science stream exam.

“I am very satisfied with the results,” Mr Gudzer said. “The results are better than last year.

“Pupils and teachers have done a wonderful job. Ms Kishore is a hard worker and the teachers are very happy with her performance.

Kishore Ousph, Evelyn’s father, was happy and surprised to learn of his daughter’s achievement.

“My daughter is a hard worker,” said Mr Ousph, 40, from Kerala. “She is very active and recently won the Hamdan Award.”

The award, under the auspices of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister for Finance, is for scholastic excellence

Asma Gilani, principal at Gems Our Own English High School in Sharjah, said most of the pupils there achieved 90 per cent and above.

“I am very proud,” Mrs Gilani said.

“A total of 77 pupils out of 240 scored 90 per cent and above. It’s all about the hard work.”
