Anderson clubs himself in the face playing golf

England fast bowler James Anderson got a taste of the ‘chin-music’ that he is more used to dishing out, courtesy of a golf shot gone horribly wrong, but emerged from the incident on Sunday with his smile intact. Playing with his fellow paceman Stuart Broad at the 27-hole Stoke Park golf course in Buckinghamshire, Anderson’s miscued shot in the rough rebounded off tree roots and caught him straight in the face. Broad, who filmed his teammate’s self-inflicted blow from a few metres behind, reacted in shock to the ball hitting Anderson. However, on finding that his bowling partner was alright, Broad posted the video on his Twitter and Instagram accounts with a series of laughing emojis, reassuring England fans. Anderson later retweeted the clip and made light of the freak incident saying that it had not put him off golf and he had not lost any teeth. England play their second Test against India at Lord’s, starting on Thursday.

Time zone change for Tokyo 2020?

Enduring a deadly heatwave this summer, Japan is considering adopting daylight saving time from next year, so that the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games can stage events during cooler hours, the

Sankei Shimbun newspaper reported yesterday. This prompted an outpouring of opposition on social media from people worried that it would result in longer hours at work, and the government spokesman said a decision had still to be taken. “It is not true that the government has decided to aim for adopting daylight savings time,” chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga said, citing a “major” impact on peoples’ lives. “We plan broad measures such as earlier start times, more greenery and heatinhibiting pavements.” The Games are scheduled to start on July 24.

Murray jumps 457 places in ATP singles rankings

Three-time grand slam champion Andy Murray climbed 457 places in the ATP world rankings yesterday, despite withdrawing from the Washington Open before his quarter-final last week. The former world No 1 is now ranked 375 as he continues his comeback from an 11-month injury lay-off. Murray also pulled out of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, though, after winning his last-16 match in Washington DC at 3am. Alexander Zverev remained as the world No 3 by defending his Washington title with a straight-sets win over Alex de Minaur, while fourth-ranked Juan Martin del Potro was beaten in the Los Cabos final by Fabio Fognini, who jumps a spot to 14th.
