Three men and a woman sentenced to jail after fight in apartment

- SALAM AL AMIR

Three men and a woman who were arrested after a brawl in a flat being used as a brothel were convicted of facilitating prostitution.

On April 21, Dubai Police were called to a building in Hor Al Anz after an Indian man, 28, fell from the second-floor window.

They found him with an injured leg and arm and took him to hospital.

Another police patrol went to the apartment, but the door was locked and screams could be heard coming from inside.

“A man’s voice was heard saying that they had been locked inside by the person who fell from the window,” an officer said.

“We found the key where the man had landed.”

The flat was divided into rooms with makeshift plywood walls and used as a brothel.

“Two of the men were customers and one of them had suffered a bad stab wound to his thigh,” the officer said.

The injured man told them that a fight had started with the brothel keeper, who was the man who fell out of the window. An Indian woman, 25, who worked as a prostitute, was also injured.

The apartment floor was stained with blood and broken pieces of glass were scattered around, the policeman said. Investigations revealed that the man who had fallen from the window and two Bangladeshi men, 36 and 33, ran the brothel.

“They charged customers Dh50 each,” the policeman said.

The men were charged with running a brothel, which they admitted during police questioning and at Dubai Criminal Court last month.

They were sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Dh100,000 each.

The woman admitted to the charge of working as a prostitute and was sentenced to three years in prison.

All four will be deported after serving their prison terms.
