Dubai Creek prepares for first new residents by early 2019

- NICK WEBSTER

The first residents of the exclusive Dubai Creek Harbour complex are on track to move into the Riviera-style community early next year, developers said.

At six square kilometres, the mega-development is almost twice the size of Downtown Dubai and promises a touch of luxury mixed with waterside living.

Creek Island Dubai will be the area’s flagship district and when finished it will be home to 33,500 residents.

Although the Emaar-built district is in the heart of the city, it is also close to the mangroves and migratory birds at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. New images from Dubai Media Office show significant progress has been made by Emaar’s contractors in recent months.

Creek Marina will be home to shops, restaurants and leisure attractions, as well as a modern yacht club, three hotels and a promenade.

The first homes to be delivered in Creek Island Dubai will be in Dubai Creek Residences, a six-tower development with 872 homes and panoramic views of Downtown Dubai.

Three bridges will connect Creek Island Dubai to the mainland, and a 286-room hotel with a similar design to harbour hotels in Singapore and Shanghai is due to open next year.

The centrepiece of Dubai Creek Harbour will be The Tower, which at about 1,192 metres will become the tallest building in the world.

Foundation work has been laid and 170,000 cubic metres of soil have been excavated to make way for The Tower, which was designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Spanish architect known for his elaborate buildings supported by single leaning pylons.

A final completion date has yet to be made public.
