RONALDO’S FIVE OF THE BEST...

-

Cristiano Ronaldo is a fivetime winner of the Uefa Champions League.

As he starts his bid for Champions League crown No 6 with Juventus today, here is a look at how he has won his quintet of titles.

Manchester United (2007-08)

The Portuguese forward was an integral part of United’s run to their third, and most recent, European Cup success.

He was top scorer in the tournament that season with eight goals, five of which came in the group stages.

He opened the scoring in the final against Chelsea in Moscow with a header. The game went to penalties, and although he had his spot-kick saved by Petr Cech, United would win the shoot-out 6-5.

Real Madrid (2013-14)

Ronaldo was on superb form as he helped Real to a first Champions League crown since 2002.

He started as he meant to go on with a hat-trick in a 6-1 victory at Galatasary and he would also grabbed five doubles during the tournament, ending up with a tournament record 17 goals.

Like in 2008 he was on target in the final, scoring from the spot to complete a 4-1 extra-time victory over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.

Real Madrid (2015-16)

Despite for once not scoring in open play in the final, Ronaldo still took centre stage.

He converted the winning penalty in a shoot-out with Atletico in Milan to give Real boasting rights again over their city rivals after the game had finished 1-1.

Sixteen goals came his way in the tournament, with the high point being a hat-trick in the second leg against Wolfsburg in the last 16 that allowed Real to overturn a two-goal deficit and win 3-2 on aggregate.

Real Madrid (2016-17)

Ronaldo was back on the scoresheet in the final again for Real as he scored two of his side’s goals in their 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff.

Top scorer yet again in the competition, with 12 to his name this time, he was at his best to sink Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

He scored both goals in the 2-1 away win in the first leg in Munich, and then scored a hat-trick at home in the Bernabeu as Real triumphed 6-3 on aggregate.

Real Madrid (2017-18)

The 3-1 victory over Liverpool in Kiev in May that gave Ronaldo his fifth winners’ medal also proved to be his last game for the club.

While he did not score in the final, Ronaldo was vital to his team reaching the final.

He scored in both legs of their 5-2 aggregate success over Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, before netting three times in the triumph over Juventus in the quarter-finals.

He signed off from Real with 15 goals to again top the individual scoring tables.
