KHASHOGGI DISAPPEARANCE: THE TIMELINE
September 28
Khashoggi visits the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. He requires documents to get married and is told to return after three days.
October 2
At 3.28am, a private plane arrives at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport. Turkish media reports the plane carried 15 Saudi nationals.
At 1.14pm, security footage shows Khashoggi entering the Saudi consulate. No footage has come to light of him leaving.
At 3.07pm, security video shows vehicles with diplomatic licence plates leaving the consulate and arriving at the Saudi consul’s residence near by.
Between 7pm and 11pm, the 15 Saudis check out of their hotels and fly out of Turkey.
October 3
The Washington Post and Khashoggi’s fiancee go public about his disappearance.
October 4
Saudi Arabia says Khashoggi left the consulate alive. It also says its Istanbul consulate is co-ordinating with the Turkish authorities.
October 6
The Saudi consulate invites journalists inside to show that Khashoggi is not there.
October 10
US President Donald Trump says he told Saudi Arabia he wanted to get to the bottom of the matter.
October 12
Saudi officials release two statements, calling accusations that they killed Khashoggi “baseless”.
October 15
Saudi consulate allows a Turkish forensics team to search the premises.
October 16
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says rooms in the Saudi consulate were freshly painted before the forensics team examined them.
October 17
Mr Trump advances a “rogue killers” scenario for Khashoggi’s death.
October 19
Saudi Arabia admits Khashoggi died in the consulate but says it was a result of a brawl.
