Nun leaves Philippines after angering Duterte
An Australian nun who angered President Rodrigo Duterte was set to leave the Philippines yesterday after a long legal fight against the government’s attempts to expel her. Sister Patricia Fox, who has spent almost three decades working with labourers, farmers and urban poor, urged her sympathisers to continue helping the disadvantaged. “I hope he listens to the voice of the little people, not just the military, not just the businessmen,” said Sister Fox, 71. She angered the president in April by investigating killings and evictions of farmers by soldiers. She was arrested on charges relating to activism. Last week authorities ordered Sister Fox to be deported by yesterday.
