US unveils $60m pavilion and collaborations for Expo 2020

-

The US has unveiled a pavilion for the Expo 2020 in Dubai, featuring the country’s cultural and commercial achievements.

The American delegation is expected to spend $60 million (Dh220.3m) on the project. US 2020 leaders announced collaboration with US companies including Pepsi and Virgin Hyperloop One, who will unveil a hyperloop ride experience.

The building will be circular with slanted supports.

The curved face will be illuminated with images at night, displaying modern graphics and vast American landscapes.

The architect of the pavilion, Curtis Fentress, who has also designed airports and convention centres across the US, said he designed the building to represent mobility, movement, travel and sustainability.

“We have designed this building to project a sensation of movement, making the viewer feel like the building itself is in motion,” Mr Fentress said.

“Once you enter the building, it opens up to what the US stands for – we are an open, accessible country where you can live to create ideas.

“It showcases all the things we are doing in America, developing technology and concepts that are going to move us forward in the future.”

Organisers also announced a two-year global campaign, “to engage citizens of the US and the world in an awareness journey aligned to the themes of the pavilion”, although they did not specify what this would mean.
