Are you a doctor or a nurse? The Pink Caravan Ride needs you
The Pink Caravan Ride needs 200 medical staff to join its breast cancer awareness campaign, which will be travelling through the country next month.
Organisers want general practitioners, family doctors, radiologists, X-ray technicians and nurses to join their team of medical volunteers for the ninth horse ride across the Emirates.
The team will offer free consultations, ultrasound screenings and mammograms, and hold a series of educational talks for the public.
The ride takes place between February 23 and March 1. Those who wish to take part can register online before January 30.
Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, head of the campaign’s medical and awareness committee, said the ride’s volunteers have offered more than 56,000 free medical examinations across the UAE over the past eight years.
“They have diagnosed 61 cancer cases and educated thousands on the need for regular self-examinations and medical screenings to detect breast cancer,” Dr Al Mahdi said.
Dr Riyad Bendardaf, senior consultant oncologist at Sharjah University Hospital, said the campaign was important because it protected people’s health and well-being and gave medical people a “golden opportunity” to serve the community.
“I call on all practising doctors and nurses in the country to join this great campaign,” Dr Bendardaf said. “Pink Caravan has 30 fixed and mobile clinics, as well as 200 medical personnel to offer free medical examinations.”
In February last year, the campaign opened a permanent mobile mammography clinic that offers a comprehensive package of medical services for all members of the community throughout the year.
