Abu Dhabi’s outdoors are even greater with four new parks
An upgrade to green public spaces in Abu Dhabi offers residents and tourists healthier outdoor living and improves the appearance of the city.
More than 100 areas, including leisure facilities, running and cycling tracks and play areas were given a facelift.
The work was part of the For Abu Dhabi initiative launched in 2019 by the Department of Municipalities and Transport.
“The upgraded areas include more leisure facilities, innovative misting systems, ‘green’ planted walls, lightweight concrete and native plants and trees to help cool the areas,” Abu Dhabi Media Office said.
The upgrades were a part of the Dh8 billion ($2.18bn) initiative to improve areas across Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

The work to turn public places and parks into community spaces was planned to boost the emirate’s liveability by 2021.
From water features and community ponds to playgrounds for children, the initiative encompasses more than 300 small and largescale projects.
Contracts were awarded to international consultancies to modernise Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street and Hamdan Street – two of the main roads in Abu Dhabi city.
